The Nelson Soccer Association (NSA) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive soccer environment. We recognize that player safety includes not only physical, but also emotional, environmental, and identity-based wellbeing.

Included below are many available resources to help.

Soccer is a contact sport and injuries may occur. All participants share responsibility in reducing risk and promoting safe play.

Severe Weather & Lightning Safety


Concussion Protocols

Concussions are a serious and often overlooked injury in youth sport.

Immediate Action

  • Any suspected concussion = immediate removal from play
  • The player must not return until assessed and cleared by an independent medical professional experienced in concussion management.

Return-to-Play Process

  • 6-step graduated return-to-play protocol
  • Minimum 24 hours between each stage
  • Progression only if symptom-free

Injury & Incident Reporting

Minor injuries are common; however, significant injuries or incidents (including suspected concussions) must be documented and reported.

Insurance Coverage

All registered NSA players, coaches, and officials are covered under the BC Soccer Sport Accident Insurance Program for sanctioned activities.

Required Steps to report an injury

  1. At the time of the incident
  2. Insurance Claims
    • Families submit claims directly to BC Soccer
    • Claims must be submitted within 30 days of the incident

How to Report a Serious Incident

      1. Alternate Measures: Prior to complaint NSA may be able to handle the situation through the ED, TD, Coaches or Referees.
      2. The Judicial Process: Complete the Incident Report Form below to begin; a flow chart at the top of the form outlines how your report will be handled.

    • Submit an NSA Incident Report. File an incident report (Attach the fillable form link). Incident reports can be anonymous, and are sent directly to our ECRB committee.
