Player Safety Expectations
When Unsupervised During Travel
Travel in Groups
Players must stay in groups of 2–4 or more when walking in public spaces or travelling between venues.
To be established by your team Coach and Manager:
- Hotel lights-out curfews
- Pre-game check-in times
- Group meal-time expectations
Follow Local Context Guidance
Before travel, Managers may provide guidance regarding:
- Local safety concerns
- Neighbourhoods to avoid
- Areas with known political or social tensions
- Strategies for staying together as a group
Extreme Weather Safety
Travel and competition may involve environmental or weather-related risks. These situations are managed with a safety-first approach, and activities will be modified or cancelled when conditions are unsafe.
Possible risks include:
- Extreme heat or poor air quality (e.g., wildfire smoke)
- Thunderstorms, lightning, or hail
- Heavy rain or flooding
- Cold exposure
- Earthquakes or other natural disasters
General Principles
- Safety overrides competition or schedules.
- Local authority, venue, and tournament guidance will be followed.
Responding to Harassment, Discrimination, or Identity-Based Harm
Harassment, discrimination, or targeting based on identity can be deeply distressing and harmful. These situations are treated as urgent safety concerns, not interpersonal conflicts.
If you experience or witness harassment:
- Move toward teammates, trusted adults, or a populated area.
- Stay with your group; do not confront the situation alone.
- Tell a trusted adult immediately—your experience matters.
- You choose how we proceed. We will follow your lead.
- Support is available at all times.
Bystander Intervention
All players, staff, and chaperones share responsibility for interrupting harm when it is safe to do so and for seeking help immediately.
Reporting and Documentation
If an incident occurs:
- Notify a team official immediately.
- Team staff will complete an Incident Report within 24 hours.
- A team official will contact the family within 24 hours to:
- Express support
- Reaffirm safety commitments
- Outline available resources
The player and family decide whether to:
- Report to local authorities
- Pursue legal action
The association will support whatever the family chooses.
