Social Media Policy

Purpose

Social media helps promote NSA, share information, and celebrate our community. This policy ensures communication reflects NSA values and maintains a safe, positive online environment.

Official NSA Media Contacts

Only the following may speak publicly on behalf of NSA:

  • Chair/Vice Chair
  • Admin
  • Executive Director
  • Technical Director
  • Hired Media Manager

These individuals may delegate permission when appropriate.
A hired social media manager must follow all NSA Social media policies, our mission and values.

Inappropriate Content 

Accounts directly associated with NSA will never post or share:

  • Racist, sexist, ageist, or discriminatory content
  • Threats, insults, abuse, or personal attacks
  • Content that harms NSA’s reputation or the integrity of the game
  • Inappropriate or offensive photos
  • Reposts of inappropriate content

Official NSA platforms exist to:

  • Promote NSA and the soccer community
  • Communicate events
  • Celebrate achievements
  • Support soccer growth and development pathways

Official accounts:

  • Will take their lead from BC Soccer or Canada Soccer  on postings that could be deemed political or religious.
  • Will not take sides on controversial issues
  • Will not display unsportsmanlike behaviour
  • Will not engage in online arguments 

Content Standards

Official NSA communications must:

  • Reflect NSA mission, values, and positive community standards
  • Be factual, respectful, and appropriate
  • Avoid controversial discussions

Sharing Fundraisers & Community Accolades

  • Official media channels may only promote activities and fundraisers that benefit the Association’s membership as a whole.
  • Membership fundraising initiatives are welcome to tag the Association in their posts; the Association may interact with those posts when appropriate to help broaden their reach.

 Exceptions apply only when the initiative benefits the entire NSA community, such as:

  • Grant opportunities
  • Organization-wide awards or recognition
  • Programs, events, or resources for the full membership

Team and League Sponsors

  • Have permission to share their team photos on their company social media pages. 
  • Must follow NSA media policies when posting about NSA teams, programs, or members.
  • Tag @nelsonsoccer or use #nelsonsoccer when posting
  • Do not respond to negative comments about NSA — report them.

Responsibility for Your Actions when posting or commenting about NSA 

  • Your posts reflect on you, your team, NSA, and governing bodies (BCSA, CSA, FIFA).

  • Violations may result in disciplinary action.

  • Online content is permanent—even deleted posts can be saved or shared.

Expectations for Personal Accounts

  • If you reference NSA in your username, bio, or use NSA logos, you must include:
    “This account is not an official Nelson Soccer Association account.”

  • Follow NSA media policies when posting about NSA teams, programs, or members.

  • Tag @nelsonsoccer or use #nelsonsoccer when sharing positive content.

  • Do not respond to negative posts about NSA — report them to NSA leadership.

NSA may report accounts if guidelines are violated.
