Canada Celebrates the

FIFA World Cup 2026™

The City of Nelson is excited to be part of the historic FIFA World Cup™ celebrations taking over the nation this summer.

The festivities begin on Wednesday, June 24 with Canada Celebrates the FIFA World Cup 2026™, a countrywide celebration recognizing Canada’s role as a host nation for the world’s largest sporting event. The event will feature live match viewing, family-friendly activities, sponsor and skills booths, food vendors, and a beer garden.

Emcees Lucas Myers and Ruth & Shelby will kick off the celebration at 11:30 a.m. The first match begins at noon as Canada takes on Switzerland, followed by Scotland versus Brazil at 3 p.m. 

To welcome residents and visitors from across the region, all West Kootenay Transit routes will be free throughout the day, making it easier for residents and visitors to travel between communities and enjoy the festivities. Riders will be able to travel free of charge throughout the region, including service from Selkirk College in Castlegar to Kaslo, and Nakusp.

Soccer Days in Nelson

The celebration continues with Nelson Soccer Days, running June 24–27 and transforming downtown Nelson into a hub of activity with live music, match watch parties, special promotions, and community events.

Throughout the four-day event, residents and visitors are encouraged to explore downtown shops and restaurants, participate in the Soccer Passport program, and enjoy live entertainment across the city. Participating businesses will offer special promotions, contests, and other activities designed to create a festive atmosphere downtown.

The Nelson Soccer Association will host Masters matches Thursday evening and the public is encouraged to attend! They are also offering a free youth skills camp on Friday morning, and a free 3 v 3   tournament on Saturday. You can register for those events HERE
