Youth Soccer Coach Code of Conduct
Our goal is to create a positive, fun, and development-focused environment for all players. As a coach, I agree to uphold the following:
1. Prioritize Fun and Development
I understand that children play soccer for enjoyment, learning, and personal growth. Child athletes are not miniature professionals, and I will not place unrealistic expectations on them.
2. Create a Positive and Respectful Environment
I will foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere where players feel confident and respected. I will not ridicule, yell at, or demean players for mistakes or performance.
3. Teach Fair Play and Sportsmanship
I will teach players to play fairly, respect the rules, and demonstrate good sportsmanship. I will encourage players to resolve conflicts without hostility or violence.
4. Be a Positive Role Model
I understand that players learn by example. I will act with integrity, use appropriate language, and demonstrate respectful behavior toward players, officials, opponents, and spectators.
5. Support Player Development Equitably
I will provide all players with fair instruction, support, and opportunities to develop, recognizing individual needs, abilities, and stages of growth.
6. Communicate Positively and Constructively
I will give feedback that is encouraging, constructive, and focused on effort and improvement. I will be generous with praise and help build player confidence.
7. Respect Officials and the Game
I will respect referees and their decisions and will not question their judgment or honesty in public. I will encourage players and parents to do the same.
8. Ensure Safety and Well-Being
I will ensure that equipment, facilities, and activities are appropriate and safe for the age and ability of the players.
9. Commit to Ongoing Development
I will seek appropriate training and continue to develop my coaching knowledge and skills.
10. Respect All Participants
I will show respect for opponents, recognizing that without them there is no game. I will not use abusive language or engage in any form of harassment toward players, coaches, officials, or spectators.
Acknowledgment and Agreement
I have read and agree to abide by this Coach Code of Conduct. I understand that failure to do so may result in action by the club or organization.
The Nelson Soccer Association (NSA) is a non-profit community soccer association whose mission is to provide all soccer players, coaches, officials and parents in Nelson and the surrounding area with programs and opportunities to learn, play and excel in the sport of soccer.
