The Nelson Soccer Association (NSA) is a non-profit community soccer association whose mission is to provide all soccer players, coaches, officials and parents in Nelson and the surrounding area with programs and opportunities to learn, play and excel in the sport of soccer.
Player Code of Conduct

Purpose
The purpose of this Code is to ensure a safe and positive environment by making players aware that there is an expectation of appropriate behaviour. The NSA is committed to creating a culture in which all individuals are treated with respect – both on and off the field.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to player conduct during NSA business, activities, and events including, but not limited to, practices, games, tryouts, training camps, tournaments, and travel associated with NSA activities. It also applies to player conduct outside of NSA activities and events where such conduct adversely affects the NSA’s sporting environment or is detrimental to the image and reputation of Nelson Soccer Association.
Conduct
1. Respect for Self – I Will:
- Be kind to myself as I learn and develop as a Player.
- Commit to giving the best of myself as a Player and member of the NSA community.
- Remain in control of myself and respect the rules of the game so that soccer does not become a dangerous sport for myself or anyone around me.
- Exercise self-control, even when provoked.
- Refrain from fighting or showing excessive displays of anger or frustration.
- Have the strength to overcome the temptation to retaliate.
- Commit to working towards my goals while respecting the rules and policies in place.
2. Integrity – I Will:
- Accept victory with grace and modesty, without ridiculing my opponent.
- Accept defeat by recognizing my opponent’s good work and honouring the efforts of my teammates.
- Learn as much from defeat as from victory.
- Show respect for coaches, game officials, teammates and opposing players.
3. Respect for Others – I Will:
- Arrive to all practices and games on time and prepared.
- Prioritize attendance and notify the coaches and/or manager of any absences.
- Recognize that everyone is welcome to engage in sport regardless of their ability, experience or background.
- Refrain from engaging in any form of disrespectful or hurtful conduct including:
- Offensive remarks, hurtful comments or obscene gestures.
- Trash-talking, taunting, tormenting and name calling.
- Written or verbal abuse.
- Physical or sexual violence.
- Threats.
- Outbursts.
- Any other actions that demean or diminish a person.
- Not use technology (e.g. mobile phones, the internet, social networking sites, chat rooms, instant messenger) in any negative manner as outlined above.
- Accept diversity and will promote inclusion by avoiding any discriminatory behaviour.
4. Honour – I Will:
- Recognize that I am a representative of the NSA and will conduct myself in a way that honours that role.
- Strive to be a positive influence and role model.
- Promote the sport of soccer in the most constructive and positive manner possible.
